Driving and plant-operator vacancies are some of the most shared Gulf ads, and some of the most abused. A real Saudi employer wants to know whether you can legally sit in that cab, whether you have done the same work recently, and whether your papers will survive iqama processing. They are not looking for motivational language. This guide is the preparation list we give applicants before a recruiter calls.
Match licence class to the job title, keep experience letters readable, and do not accept a driving job that starts with a personal cash deposit.
Name the job the way the depot names it
Light driver, trailer driver, mixer, dump truck, forklift, crane, and bus are different licences and different yards. If the ad says trailer and your licence is light vehicle, you will fail at the first check. Read the ad twice. If it is vague, ask which vehicle before you send the passport.
- Car and light van
- Bus or staff transport
- Rigid truck
- Trailer or tanker
- Forklift, shovel, or crane, each with its own paper
What to keep in one folder
When a coordinator says send documents, they mean now. A messy WhatsApp gallery of half photos wastes the slot. Scan pages flat, in colour, with all four corners visible.
- Passport with six-plus months validity
- Licence front and back, plus any GCC licence if you have one
- Experience letters that mention vehicle type
- CNIC and a simple CV with dates that match the letters
- Police character certificate when the agency asks, not before
The screening call is short. Rehearse it.
Expect questions in this order: current city, licence class, years on that vehicle, last employer, last salary, can you join, any gulf experience, any accident. Answer in short sentences. If you do not have Gulf experience, say so and name the local fleet you drove. Lying about a licence class is how people get stuck after medical.
Pay, camp, and overtime are not secrets you should accept on a voice note
Ask for basic salary, overtime rule, food, accommodation, and whether the licence conversion is company-paid. Write the answers down. Compare with other offers in the same city. A number that is double the usual rate for a fresh light driver is marketing, not a package.
Red flags for driver ads
Anyone who wants payment to book a driving test in a city you have never been invited to. Anyone who says the visa is already printed and you only need to send money for the stamp. Anyone who cannot name the client site even after you agree to apply.
The Bottom Line
Driver and operator hiring is paperwork plus a clear voice on the phone. Prepare the folder, tell the truth about the licence, and keep cash out of the first conversation. Use the offer-red-flags guide on this site before you resign from your current job.
